Following up on a campaign pledge, Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler personally took to the streets of Bossier City on Sunday morning, November 7. by Keep Bossier Beautiful (KBB). Teams from the public works department of the town of Bossier were also present. In total, the cleanup project removed more than 19 tons of debris from part of I-20 and other streets in Bossier City.

During the project, the eastbound interior lane of I-20 was cleaned from Traffic Street to Airline Drive. In addition, various sections of Airline Drive (near Airline High School) were also cleaned. Part I-20 of the clean-up project was scheduled to take place on a Sunday morning due to reduced traffic on the highway at that time.

The amount of debris collected was so large that the sweepers and dump trucks had to be unloaded twice during the cleanup project.

“When people walk through our city on I-20, I want them to see how proud we are of our city. I believe that when you have clean streets, citizens will respect it even more. I want to think they’re never, ever going to land, ”Bossier Town Mayor Tommy Chandler said.

Debris collected at this event included: pallets, car parts, bumpers, wood and accumulated dirt.

Mayor Chandler also mentioned that citizens will continue to see street sweepers and cleanup efforts taking place in the town of Bossier in the future.

“Once we hit that jackpot it will be a lot easier to keep everything clean because it will be done periodically, because cleaning will become a routine. All of our major thoroughfares like Airline Drive and Benton Road will be cleaned up, ”said Chandler.

Keep Bossier Beautiful Executive Director Lynn Bryan says she is grateful to Mayor Chandler and his team for cleaning up the community.

“Keep Bossier Beautiful is incredibly grateful to Mayor Chandler and his team for their desire to truly help clean up our community. It’s great to have our leadership working towards the same goals that we are trying to accomplish. It helps us be successful, ”said Bryan.

Keep Bossier Beautiful recently won the Circle of Excellence 2020-2021 Award from Keep America Beautiful. KBB is also the recipient of a cleaning supplies grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. (the state’s education, enforcement, community improvement and waste management organization awareness and cleaning).
