FedEx suspends domestic express freight services after Omicron hit

Feb. 1 (Reuters) – FedEx Corp on Tuesday suspended domestic express cargo services due to staffing shortages as cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus surged.

The delivery company said it was suspending FedEx domestic express freight, including FedEx two-day freight and FedEx three-day freight services.

International economy cargo pickup services, which had been halted earlier, resumed on Monday, FedEx added.

Last month, the company warned that rising cases of the Omicron variant had caused staff shortages and a delay in airlifted shipments. Read more

Severe winter storms across the country and staff shortages had forced several US airlines to cancel flights last month.

Coronavirus deaths in the United States rose by at least 2,266 on Monday to a total of 890,049 from 887,783 the day before, according to a Reuters tally.
