NAM Bowl-a-Thon raises money for Houstonians in need

HOUSTON, TX – More than 80 bowlers participated in the first-ever Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) Bowling for Neighbors Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6, 2022, at iT’Z Family Food and pleasure – Willowbrook.

The bowl-a-thon raised nearly $14,000 to help support NAM’s Survival Over Summer campaign. Summer can be a very difficult time for Houston area residents and as a result, NAM is seeing a 50% increase in service needs. The school break means families have extra childcare costs and no access to school meals, and older people on fixed incomes often have to choose between buying food and running the air conditioning just to survive. the heat. Proceeds from the bowl-a-thon helped NAM meet demand.

Each participant had to raise a minimum of $50 or form a team with a minimum fundraising goal of $150. Prizes were awarded based on total fundraising. The top individual fundraiser received their choice of a Nintendo Switch or Beats headphones, and the top fundraising team received a Team Party for 25 at iT’Z.

In addition to individual fundraising efforts, HEB Helping Here and Loyalty Plumbing of Cypress contributed to the event as title sponsors.

“It was a great time,” said Brian Carr, NAM’s Director of Advancement. “Everyone had a great time, and the camaraderie of working towards a goal that will make a difference to someone made it even better.”

Northwest Assistance Ministries is a non-profit community social service agency working to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
