Province of Manitoba announces upcoming update to building, plumbing, fire and energy codes – Winnipeg

Manitoba is seeking to update the province’s building, plumbing, fire and energy codes to the latest national model “as soon as possible.”

The goal is to switch to the new codes six months earlier than necessary.

“Based on feedback from industry and other stakeholders, our government has chosen to adopt the 2020 national standards, bypassing the 2015 editions, to give these professionals ample time to familiarize themselves with the 2020 codes,” said the Minister of Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services. “Adopting the 2020 editions will benefit Manitoba industry by reducing costs and improving competitiveness, which will help strengthen our province’s economy.

Currently, the province is struggling with the 2010 editions of building, plumbing and fire codes, while the energy code is currently at the 2011 model.

The release says skipping the 2015 model and going straight to the 2020 edition is preferred among industry professionals.
